How To View Basic Information About Your Computer
Published by Steve
Fortunately, Windows Vista makes it absolutely simple to find out just what kind of hardware is powering your system and helps you to learn that little bit more about your personal computer. If you’re interested in learning exactly which CPU (central processing unit) model, how much memory (RAM), operating system, computer model, or even a few other bits and pieces of information about your computer, then you happen to be in luck!
Firstly, in order to get to where we’re going, we need to right mouse click the ‘Computer’ icon on our Windows Vista desktop and go to ‘Properties’.

And we’re there! Hopefully upon clicking the ‘Properties’ link from your ‘Computer’ icon, you should not be looking a lovely little menu that will detail all your essential computer specifications from your processor to your computer’s ‘name’ - the title you assigned to your PC during the initial registration of Windows Vista.

I took the liberty of including a screenshot of my computer’s basic information; this contains a full summary of all the necessary information of my brand new Dell Inspiron 1520 notebook. As you can see from the upper ‘Windows edition’ section of the screenshot: I’m currently running Windows Vista Home Premium edition on this computer.
Lower down, in the ‘System’ section, you may notice that my notebook’s manufacturer is Dell and I have one of the newer Inspiron 1520 models which Dell launched recently. I have an Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 CPU clocked at 2.00GHz respectively and just over 2GB of system memory.
You may also notice that I named my notebook, ‘Inspiron’, simply because I’m not very creative and was really stumped for a name for my new notebook that I went with the first thing that came to mind!
And that concludes how we find out basic information about our computer.
