How To Safely Shut Down Windows Vista
Published by Steve
Sadly, Windows Vista, and operating systems in general, work in a way which prohibits us from simply turning off our computer systems by the power at the wall. This is a shame since being able to do so would make shutting down our computers so much easier and faster!
In order to shut down Windows Vista safely and securely - simply click on your Windows Start button and click the small arrow icon which is located next to the padlock graphic in the lower right of the Start menu; doing so will present you with a mini-menu where you will be given the option to Shut Down your computer - do so.

Provided everything goes to plan your computer should be well on its way to shutting itself down without any fuss. However, should have any programs running in the background or any unsaved files and documents lingering then you will be prompted to either save your current progress before shutting down or Windows Vista will ask you if you would rather it automatically close the remaining programs and shut down immediately after; and while this may seem great, you will need to bear in mind that your documents and files will not be saved unless you do it manually before shutting down.
And that’s it! This is the single safest way to shutting down Windows Vista and you should make sure to go about powering down your PC this way - every time. It normally doesn’t take any longer than a few seconds - provided of course that Windows Vista hasn’t downloaded any updates which usually requires that your computer take that little bit extra time to power down as it installs the updates.
An important thing to also keep in mind is that whenever you turn off your computer in an unsafe matter - such as disconnecting your power supply - then you run the risk of corrupting important files that programs might need to function correctly.
