How To Change Your Monitor’s Screen Resolution
Published by Steve
Windows Vista allows you to easily change your monitor’s screen resolution (or “screen size” as some refer to it as). Apparently, according to recent statistics, the most popular screen resolution is 1280 by 1024 pixels - which is actually the resolution I used to use on my previous PC which had a 17″ monitor. However, I’m currently using a wide-screen resolution of 1680 by 1050 on this notebook.
A general rule of thumb is that the bigger your monitor is, the higher the resolution it will be capable of achieving. However, this isn’t always the case - just a guideline.
Okay, let’s get started. First we need to return to our Windows desktop environment and right click anywhere to bring up a quick menu - go to Properties. You will then be presented with a brand new section which allows you to manage a host of Windows Vista features; for the moment though, we need to go to Display Settings which is right at the bottom of the list.
After doing so, you should now be looking at a screen which looks a little something like this:

As I mentioned earlier: I’m currently using a wide-screen resolution of 1680 by 1050 for this system. Simply adjust the slider located towards the bottom of the Display Settings interface to select a new resolution that you feel comfortable with. If your monitor (and you for that matter) can handle it, then I’d highly advise you crank the settings up as high as your monitor will allow. Once you are satisfied with the alterations made, simply click OK to inform your computer that you want to save these settings and it will do the rest for you.
You should hopefully find that everything looks much more clean and sleek and much less cluttered around your Windows Vista desktop. Enjoy!

I still do not understand how to get to properties???
Just right click on your desktop
I have a desktop with a 17″ monitor. Resolution is set to 1280×1024, which is the highest setting it will allow.
Recently, and without any help from me, SOME webpages that I frequent have been displaying only in the center of the screen. This occurred overnight, one day all was normal, the next day many sites I use a lot that were using the whole screen now only use the center part of the screen.
Is there any explanation for this you may be aware of, or any other settings other than resolution I may need to check ??
I thank you in advance for your time.
If it helps to understand what I am saying, my desktop, which is not a wide screen, has the same appearance as my laptop which does have a widescreen.
