Add Custom Shortcuts To Your Windows Vista Taskbar

If you’re anything like me and dislike having to have to click a multitude of links to locate that one specific file or folder on your computer then I’m sure you will be pleased to learn that there is a great way to drastically reduce the amount of clicks required to effectively reach the item in question.

I personally love the idea that I can have everything I need right there and ready for me when I desire it. Fortunately, Windows Vista allows for the ability to customize your taskbar and add as many shortcuts (well, within reason) to your Windows environment to greatly speed up and optimize your work schedule.

Firstly we need to bring up right click on our Windows Vista taskbar and navigate to Toolbars > New Toolbar…

This will bring you to the New Toolbar selection area; simply navigate to the folder or file that you wish to be added to our Windows Vista taskbar and press Select Folder. For this purpose of this tutorial, I have selected the My Websites folder because I find I am constantly having to have to go back and forth to those folders to recover and backup certain important files.

And voila! There is my brand new, and infinitely helpful, shortcut to my My Websites folder. Not only will this help lengthen the life-span of your mouse - well, it probably doesn’t, but in theory it should - but it will also save you a heck of a lot of time allowing you to reach those essential files much, much faster.
